Hooked

Hooked investigates consumer, gender, and fiber. Three historic catches are replicated and weighed on one side of the gallery. Alongside face masks for guests to recreate these historic happenings and the fishermen who reeled them in. While on the other a large catch is being hoisted high.

 

Design can be closely linked to our interpretation and consumption of this phylum. From laboratory-produced bio-luminescent fish to uniquely labeled canned tuna. Fish make up a large portion of our consumer market. As an artist, I am fascinated by origin stories and organic handmade items. As a consumer, I am curious how far the distortions will go before we see value in the real.
