Carol Cunningham Turner
Rectangular with Stamp
Birdie, my great-grandmother, and I sent letters back and forth between little towns in Oklahoma and Texas. Often illegible our narratives were smudged and scribbled. A fact aided by my undeveloped motor skills and Birdie, in her 90’s, hands bearing severe arthritis and signs of age. These letters became something other than weekly updates. They served as objects relaying silent messages of thoughtfulness, time, and attention.
Now living in an isolated state, it's no simple task to hop in the car seeking someone or something across state borders. The postage stamp personifies ongoing conversations, friendships, and comfort.
Rectangular object with stamp. Sent from Alaska with care.
